Mt. Lebanon is a South Hills community of about 34,000 people just south of Pittsburgh, with Washington Road running through Uptown and the light rail Red Line passing beneath it. Kostrub Law Firm, PLLC helps Mt. Lebanon residents plan their estates and handle legal matters from our office in Cecil Township.
Planning ahead in Mt. Lebanon
Many Mt. Lebanon families own older homes, have children in school or in college, and are caring for parents. Heather N. Kostrub helps put a plan in place that covers each stage.
- Wills that name an executor and guardians
- Trusts for children, for privacy, or to avoid probate
- Power of attorney and health care directives for every adult in the family, including college students who have turned 18
- Probate and estate administration when a family member dies
Allegheny County offices you may deal with
Allegheny County does not have a separate Register of Wills office. The Wills/Orphans’ Court Division of the Department of Court Records does that work. It is on the first floor of the City-County Building, 414 Grant Street, Pittsburgh. Deeds are recorded with the county’s Department of Real Estate.
Your plan and your accounts
A will does not control everything. Retirement accounts, life insurance and accounts with a payable-on-death beneficiary pass to the person named on the account. If those names are out of date, your plan may not work the way you expect. Our article on beneficiary designations versus a will explains how the two fit together.
Questions Mt. Lebanon residents ask
Our child just turned 18. Do they need documents?
Once a child is an adult, parents generally lose the legal right to see medical or financial records. A simple power of attorney and health care directive can fix that.
Do you handle business matters too?
Yes. We help with contracts, forming a business and employment agreements.
